From his beginnings in the 1980s with the legendary UK big band Loose Tubes, through his worldwide collaborations, to his own projects, award winning Saxophonist and composer Julian Argüelles has always spoken with a unique voice and offers a mix of exciting British contemporary jazz infused with Spanish rhythms, South African grooves, brass band and classical influences.
Julian Argüelles Quartet features the best of the UK's younger jazz generation, currently with pianist Ivo Neame and drummer James Maddren, producing music that is “...rich and melodic, sometimes complex but always engaging...” The Jazzmann. LAN Trio is a pan European trio with Julian and his longstanding friends (over 25 years playing together); with superstar, Portuguese pianist Mário Laginha & the phenominal Norwegian percussionist Helge Andreas Norbakken. Argüelles was awarded a Fellowship from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire for his services to jazz in 2017 and is a recipient of a Parliamentary Jazz Award (2016) for his CD "Let it be Told" (Basho).
